Reporting Illegal Fireworks
With the summer holidays approaching, the warmer weather, fire season, and school drawing to a close there will undoubtedly be people with more time on their hands. Often, it ends with mischievous behavior, if not outright illegal. One of the prevalent problems facing our community is the repeated use of fireworks. Fireworks in the City of San Jose are illegal!
Many in the community worked tirelessly with the City and law enforcement agencies to update the City’s laws and enforcement policies regarding the use of illegal fireworks.
The city is taking a slightly different approach this year. They are requesting to NOT report illegal fireworks via the police emergency or non-emergency phone numbers. Instead, they updated their 311 app to allow quicker and more efficient reporting of illegal fireworks.
-
- Use of the app in anonymous mode results only in data collection for trouble spots around the city, and no citations issued.
- However, if you log in to the 311 app, code enforcement will be notified and citations issued to the offending party

LPNA Free Street Trees Project
Hello, Neighbors. The message below is from LPNA Treasurer, Barbara Canup…
___________________________________
We’ve planted the first batch of street trees under LPNA’s BeautifySJ grant, and we have some applications in the pipeline, but that leaves us with funding for a couple of additional trees.
We want to hear from you now if you have a spot in the park strip in front of your house (between the sidewalk and street) with space for a tree to thrive! We need to plant during the rain and before the grant runs out in March. Send an email to gardener@lospaseosneighbors.com. Please include your name and street address in the email.
We will send you the Tree Stewardship Application from Our City Forest, along with instructions. Then we will guide you through the process with OCF, and LPNA will pay the $250 fee and help with the planting.
(Note that the space cannot be close to a lamppost or right beside a driveway. If there is a tree already there, or the spot currently has cemented bricks, rocks, or other “hardscape”, an additional permit for removal would be required, and the cost to remove would be your responsibility.)
