2018 Holiday Event photos

Despite the sporadic heavy rains, many families ventured out and attended the event again this year to obtain a Christmas tree, visit Santa, meet SJPD/SJFD personnel, or contribute to the Toys for Tots program. A huge thanks to LPNA, LPHOA, the Matta family, and all the other participants to make this another successful event. A brief photo album was posted to the LPNA facebook page.

For families attending the event and had photos taken with Santa or SJ vehicles, please contact Lisa at LPHOA for information to access those images, or Greg Peck/Karen Lattin at LPNA

Mail-in voters

For those that were industrious enough to vote early by mail, what next? Want to ensure your vote was counted? You are in luck!!!

Santa Clara County has your back! If you looked at the Vote By Mail Ballot Instructions, there was a QR Code printed on it pointing to the site, www.sccvote.org

On their page at the center is the following icon:

Click on the Vote By Mail Ballot Tracking link and complete the form with your registered street address and birthdate (MM/DD/YYYY). If the registrar received and counted your ballot, it will indicate in the displayed results!

Success! You confirmed your vote was received and counted! Thanks for performing your civic duties and participating in the election process.

National Drug Takeback Day

Do you have unused, unwanted, or expired prescription drugs within your household that need to be properly disposed? These should NEVER be discarded into garbage, flushed, or washed down a sink. The chances of it damaging wildlife, ground water, or our drinking supply is too great. Instead, drop off these drugs at a designated disposal site. There are several throughout the city. However, for this specific event our nearest drop-off site (ONLY accepts pills and patches, no sharps) is:

SJPD Substation (next to the Costco on Great Oaks Pkwy)
6087 Great Oaks Pkwy
Saturday October 27, 2018
10AM – 2PM

If you cannot make it to this event, checkout the Santa Clara County Household Hazardous Waste program. It has links for sites throughout the county for drop-off of drugs and sharps for proper disposal.

LPNA BBQ in Los Paseos Park

Los Paseos Neighbors, you are invited:

Thursday, September 27th

Los Paseos Neighborhood Association Hosts

BBQ in Los Paseos Park

5:30 to 7:00 pm (or however long people want to stay)

We will be grilling hot dogs and hamburgers in the park to thank you and your families for your help and support. We’ve accomplished a lot in the past year:  new trees and benches in the park, Fibar for the playground and painting the restrooms, another outstanding National Night Out in August, a Dumpster Day, clothing collection for the homeless, and special meetings to discuss homelessness issues and solutions, and the impact of High Speed Rail.

This is a fun social event, but it will also be an opportunity to show you what we’ve done in the park and talk about our future the plans. We will also invite our friends in the Parks, Recreation, and Neighborhood Services Department and D2 Office to thank them for all their assistance.

Please mark your calendars for September 27th, and we hope to see you there!

RSVP is not strictly required, but a tentative headcount will help with our planning and purchasing. Please reply to treasurer@lospaseosneighbors.com.

Funding for this event is provided by the BeautifySJ grant from the City of San Jose.

Los Paseos Neighborhood Association Election of Officers for 2019

The entire Board of Officers of LPNA comes up for election for the calendar year 2019 at the next general meeting on Thursday, November 15, 2018, at 7 pm at the Santa Teresa Library.

The nomination process is outlined in the LPNA Bylaws:

“Nominations of candidates for elected positions shall be submitted through the LPNA web site, (About / Contact Us) or in writing (including by email) to any Officer, at least 30 days prior to the meeting when the election will take place.”

Nominations will close at midnight on October 15th.

All members who attend the meeting in November may vote. All residents of the neighborhood over the age of 18 are considered to be members.

The current Officers of LPNA have expressed the intent to nominate themselves for the same positions in the election for 2019.

The elected positions and their duties are:

President:  The President prepares and publishes the agenda and presides at membership meetings and Board meetings; facilitates the activities of LPNA; exercises general powers of administration consistent with the office; appoints committee members with approval of the Board; reviews bank statements and disbursements made; and acts as the official spokesperson for LPNA.

Vice President:  The Vice-President assists the President; assumes the duties of the President in that Officer’s absence; coordinates the activities of any committees; and serves as an authorized check signer in addition to the Treasurer.

Secretary:  The Secretary keeps the minutes of general meetings and Board meetings; is responsible for correspondence at the direction of the President; and keeps records of attendance at meetings. The Secretary is also responsible for maintaining available for inspection all legally required records and documents, and those required under grants or the LPNA Bylaws.

Treasurer:  The Treasurer is held accountable for all funds; gives a financial update at least annually at a general meeting; receives, safeguards and disburses funds; keeps proper financial records; proposes budgets to the Board; and provides bank statements for review by the President. The Treasurer also manages grant applications and grant-related accountings, and files tax returns.

Member-at-Large (2):  The Members-at-Large assist the Board with responsibilities assigned by the Board or may be requested to take over responsibilities of another Officer on a temporary basis when an Officer is unavailable. One current Member-at-Large also serves as the LPNA webmaster, and the other is responsible for activities, projects, and issues related to Los Paseos Park.

LPNA is not connected with the Los Paseos Homeowners Association (HOA) or the Tulare Hill HOA. LPNA promotes community involvement and provides a forum to discuss issues relevant to the neighborhood. LPNA also sponsors social and service events and works with the City of San Jose to improve the neighborhood. No dues are required for membership.
